The Most Common Myths About

Back Pain

You've Been Told By Doctors, Friends and Social Media That Have Led To More Pain

Here are some of the most common back pain myths people who visit our Bicester clinic have been told, which have actually hindered their process and delayed their recovery from injuries.

MYTH #1 - Back Pain Is Just Part of Getting Older
One of the biggest myths I hear in Bicester is that back pain, stiffness, and aches are simply part of ageing. That’s simply not true. While our bodies naturally change over time, pain is not an inevitable part of that process. Most of the time, pain is your nervous system signalling that something is wrong – perhaps a joint isn’t moving as it should, or something is out of alignment and pressing on a nerve. These issues can often be treated more effectively than people realise, giving them back mobility and comfort at any age.
MYTH #2 - ‘It Runs in My Family’ or ‘It’s Just My Job’
Another common belief is that if your parents had bad backs, or if you’ve always had a physically demanding job, pain is your destiny. That’s simply not the case. While lifestyle and genetics can contribute, they don’t define your future. I’ve seen countless people break free from this mindset and discover they can live without pain – even after years of believing otherwise. Pain is not your identity, and with the right approach, you can take control again.
MYTH #3 - Chiropractors Just Treat Backs
Although back pain is a big part of what I do, chiropractic care goes far beyond that. The body is a connected system, so when one area is misaligned, it affects everything else. That’s why I treat neck pain, headaches, sciatica, shoulder and hip problems, postural issues, pregnancy-related discomfort and more. My goal is not just to relieve pain but to realign the body, restore balance and improve overall function.
MYTH #4 - ‘It’s Too Late For Me’
Many people believe it’s too late to feel better, especially if they’ve lived with pain for years. But it’s never too late. I’ve worked with patients in their sixties and beyond who thought they were stuck forever. With chiropractic care, tailored exercises and IDD Therapy where needed, I’ve seen people go from barely walking to enjoying active lives again. You don’t have to settle – there is always hope.

Are You shocked, confused or Even angry About These Myths That You've Heard From Different Sources - more Which Have Probably led to More back pain?

Back pain is complex, and the myths surrounding it can often lead to misguided treatment approaches. If you’re struggling with back pain, remember that staying active, seeking proper care, and understanding that your situation is unique are the most effective ways to recover and get back to living pain-free. Don’t settle for a temporary fix – take the time to understand your body and find the treatment that works for you.
